This enrolment section is intended to provide you with much of the information you may require for considering and enrolling in Karaka School whether you are in zone or out of zone.

Out of Zone Enrolments 2027
Enrolment at Karaka School is governed by an enrolment scheme. Details of school zone and enrolment policy priorities are available from the school office, or on the website: www.karaka.school.nz.
Applications Close – Tuesday 14th October 2026
Ballot Date – Wednesday 21st October 2026
We are accepting out of zone applications for 2027 for those who fall into the Priority 2-5 categories. We have a limited number of spaces for Priority 6 students by ballot.

- 2027 Year 0 – we will review Year 0 enrolment numbers in March 2027. This will determine whether a second ballot will be held for Year 0 enrolments for the remainder of the 2027 school year (note that this will be only for students born on or after 1st May 2022 and their birthday falls before the end of the 2027 school year).
- 2027 Year 1 – limited number of spaces
- 2027 Year 2 – 0
- 2027 Year 3 – limited number of spaces
- 2027 Year 4 – limited number of spaces
- 2027 Year 5 – 0
- 2027 Year 6 – 0
Spaces in Year 7 and 8 are reviewed each term and parents are welcome to contact the school regarding Intermediate enrolment.
If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available (as outlined above) students will be selected by ballot.

Out of Zone Enrolments
Each year the Board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The Board will publish this information in our newsletter and on our Website. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.
Applications for out of zone enrolment will now be processed in the following order of priority:
First Priority must be given to students who have been accepted for enrolment in the following special programme(s) run by the school and approved by the Secretary for Education. (Not applicable to Karaka School)
Second Priority must be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
Third Priority must be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
Fourth Priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
Fifth Priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
Sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.
If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot.
Applicants seeking second, third or fourth priority status will be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
